As part of celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Bradford City Hall, around 40 representatives of the tourism and hospitality sector were given a special tour of Bradford City Hall on 24 August ahead of the main celebrations which are taking place in September.

The visitors from local, regional and national businesses and organisations took in the magnificent architecture of the heritage building exploring its history. They were also given an update on the district’s upcoming year as UK City of Culture in 2025, City Hall’s starring role as part of the district’s UNESCO City of Film designation and the amazing local heritage attractions on offer.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: “We were delighted to be able to invite people from across the tourism and hospitality sector to City Hall. We’re really looking forward to our Open Weekend and showing people around, so if you’ve ever walked past City Hall and wondered what it’s like inside, this is an excellent way to find out.”

Robert Dalewicz owner proprietor of 99 & Main in Bingley and Pickles in Baildon, said: “It was great to be able to take a tour of Bradford City Hall get a flavour of what visitors to the Open Weekend will see. The Bradford district has some wonderful attractions for visitors from near and far.”

Bradford City Hall had its Grand Opening on 9 September 1873 and exactly 150 years on, the doors of Bradford City Hall will be thrown open for members of the public to look round.

The extra special Open Weekend, which is part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days scheme, will take place on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September 2023.

Visitors to the free Open Weekend will be able to take a tour around the glorious building to learn all about its rich history.

Light refreshments will be on sale and people will be able to purchase Bradford district related items from a pop-up shop being run by the Council’s Visit Bradford team.
