Residential and nursing care
Return to Market Overview | Return to the MPS home page
Residential care homes provide accommodation and 24-hour personal care for people who cannot live independently but do not need nursing care. Care homes enable people to continue to live meaningful lives while being supported with personal care requirements.
Nursing care homes offer the same 24-hour personal care support for individuals who cannot live independently, but have nursing care needs, which can be met by the 24 hour nursing support available.
In October 2024 across the Bradford and District area we had 76 organisations, operating 100 care homes registered with us. We have 62 of the locations on our Provider List offer residential care services, 29 which offer residential and nursing care services and 9 which are nursing care only.
Occupancy Levels have remained stable at around 83% over the last 12 months to October 2024, Across all groups of service users.
Our preventative approach means that we will support people to be independent for as long as possible, and we have an ambition to reduce the number of general care home beds in the District.
Over the next 5 years, we want to work with providers who provide good quality services to shape existing provision to better respond to needs within our population, for example through specialising their provision. The current market position does not require any more care home beds due to current occupancy levels.
