Annual electoral canvass 2024

Every year the electoral register is updated so that everyone who has the right to vote in upcoming elections can have their say. The Electoral Registration Officer of the Council is required by law to contact you to do this, which may be by letter, telephone, email or a follow-up house visit.

We are currently in the process of contacting all households in Bradford and are sending out letters, asking you to check your details. Just follow the steps in the letter.

Please check as you will need to respond if:

  • The letter says you will need to do so
  • You need to make any changes or additions to the information in the letter

The letters will be addressed to 'The Occupier' as they are about all the eligible residents at a property and not a particular individual.

Please read your letter carefully to check whether you need to respond or not. The letter you receive will explain what you need to do. Not all households need to respond.

Responding

It is a legal requirement for you to reply if you’ve been asked to by the Electoral Registration Officer.

If you are required to respond, or if you need to make changes to the information we hold, you can do this by visiting www.householdresponse.com/bradford. You will need to enter the security codes you have been provided with on your letter (please note security codes can only be used once).

If you haven’t been asked to respond, and you have no changes to make to the information we hold for your property, you do not need to do anything further and your details will automatically be included.

Where you are asked to respond and no response is received to the first letter sent, a reminder will then be sent in September. We may also contact you via telephone or send a canvasser to the property to confirm the information if no response is received.

To register, you'll need your:

  • National Insurance number
  • date of birth

Your National Insurance number can be found on:

  • your National Insurance card or letter
  • official paper work such as payslips
  • letters about tax or benefits

If you cannot find your National Insurance number, you'll need to arrange to have it sent to you by the government. If you have not been given a National Insurance number, you'll need to provide a reason when applying. We'll then contact you to provide further evidence about your identity.
