C - The Community, Arts, Heritage and Future Technology Hub
Value
£5.39m
Purpose
Development of The Community, Arts, Heritage and Future Technology Centre by Shipley College will connect local people to opportunities to gain the skills which are in demand in the region by offering a state-of-the-art space for running the Government’s new flagship T Levels. The scheme also supports the protection and enhancement of the historic environment and setting of the Saltaire World Heritage Site. A number of increased benefits have been developed for education, heritage and arts - including T Level qualifications, an outdoor community roof garden and civic garden, and volunteers for the arts collection.
Objectives
- To strengthen the educational offering and cultural assets in Shipley by creating a new cultural destination in the form of a 'past meets present' multipurpose centre in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire
- The Future Technology Centre will focus on providing T-level qualifications, in particular digital, media and broadcasting, music, medical technology care and business.
- The Heritage Hub: will include a tourist information point and permanent and temporary exhibition space, collection reading room and storage. The space will host the Saltaire Collection, a collection of items that reflects all aspects of living in the village since its creation in the 1850s, providing greater opportunities for interpretation, and boosting the already vibrant creative scene in Shipley
- Community gardens allowing space for visitors to Saltaire to enjoy the World Heritage site from a central location
