
Safe and Sound Privacy Notice
Our core data protection obligations and commitments are set out in Bradford Council's primary privacy notice.
This notice provides additional privacy information for those accessing the Council’s Safe and Sound Home Alert service and describes how this service collects, uses and shares personal information about you and the types of personal information we need to process, including information the law describes as ‘special’ because of its sensitivity.
Personal information we collect and use
Information collected by us
The information we collect will be the minimum we need to deliver our service and will include the following personal data:
- name
- address
- date of Birth
- contact details
- gender
- ethnicity
- medical information sufficient to provide an effective emergency response
- marital status
- next of kin
- emergency contact
- other relevant family information
- household composition
- GP details and relevant health professionals
- NHS number
- letters/emails received
- financial information
How we use your personal information
We collect your personal information for the following purposes:
Safe and Sound will use your personal information to:
- Provide in your home appropriate equipment to support service provision.
- To communicate with you and your family and care network to provide an effective and responsive service.
- To communicate with and provide information to response and emergency services to allow them to prioritise their service responses.
How long your personal data will be kept
We will hold your personal information in line with Bradford Council’s retention schedule. At its expiry date the information will be reviewed, and only retained where there is an ongoing requirement to retain for a statutory or legal purpose. Following this your personal information will be securely destroyed.
Reasons we can collect and use your personal information
The lawful basis on which we collect and use your personal data is that

We hold the information in line with the following legislation:
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulations, CBMDC collects and uses this information under powers given to Local Authorities (Councils). The following categories of lawfulness apply:
6 (1) (c) processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject.
6 (1) (d) processing is necessary in order to protect the vital interests of the data subject or of another natural person.
6 (1) (e) Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.
9 (2) (c) processing is necessary to protect the vital interests of the data subject or of another natural person where the data subject is physically or legally incapable of giving consent.
9 (2) (h) processing is necessary for the purposes of preventive or occupational medicine, for the assessment of the working capacity of the employee, medical diagnosis, the provision of health or social care or treatment or the management of health or social care systems and services on the basis of Union or Member State law or pursuant to contract with a health professional.
9 (2) (i) processing is necessary for reasons of public interest in the area of public health, such as protecting against serious cross-border threats to health or ensuring high standards of quality and safety of health care and of medicinal products or medical devices, on the basis of Union or Member State law which provides for suitable and specific measures to safeguard the rights and freedoms of the data subject, in particular professional secrecy.
Who we share your personal information with
We may sometimes share the information that we have collected about you where it is necessary, lawful and fair to do so. We may share information with the following for these purposes:
With other Bradford Council departments to:
- provide advice and assistance to you
- help carry out their legal and statutory duties
With health professionals to:
- ensure a joined-up service for you
With 999 emergency services to:
- ensure a joined-up service for you
- to allow emergency services to triage and prioritise their response
With external providers of care to:
- ensure that your care support is informed in any changes in your care needs as appropriate
With other government departments to:
- interrogate non-identifiable information to inform changes in national funding or legislation
Keeping your personal information secure
We have appropriate security measures in place to prevent personal information from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way. We limit access to your personal information to those who have a genuine business need to know it. Those processing your information will do so only in an authorised manner and are subject to a duty of confidentiality.
We also have procedures in place to deal with any suspected data security incidents and we will notify you and the appropriate regulator of any incident where we are legally required to do so.
When computers make any decisions about you?
The Home Alert service does not make or use automated decisions.
When your data is sent to other countries?
We do not send any information we collect about you outside the United Kingdom.
