Warm/Welcoming Spaces

Warm/Welcoming Spaces are places where people can gather for free in a safe, friendly place and maybe enjoy some refreshments and some company.

We call them Warm Spaces through the colder months and Welcoming Spaces through the warmer months.

We are working alongside voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations to provide Warm/Welcoming Spaces throughout the district. These include libraries, community centres, church halls, sports clubs and other venues that are open to anyone struggling with the rise in the cost of living. Warm/Welcoming Spaces are totally free to use and are open to everyone.

Some venues offer hot drinks, activities and other services such as free wi-fi. Warm/Welcoming Spaces are safe, friendly, neutral places where you can comfortably spend time reading, studying or chatting with others.

Warm Spaces were launched in December 2022 to help people who were struggling with the cost of heating their home through winter. Due to their popularity, the spaces have continued all year round funded by money from the Department for Work and Pension’s Household Support Fund.
