Review and Assessment of Air Quality in the Bradford Metropolitan District

The Government expect that local authorities should undertake reviews and assessments of air quality every three years. The First Review and Assessment of Air Quality in the City of Bradford Metropolitan District was completed at the end of 2000. An updating and screening assessment has been completed as the first stage in the second round of air quality review and assessment by local authorities. The next stage in the process will be a detailed assessment of pollutants identified as requiring further investigation. This report concludes that a detailed assessment will be required in respect of nitrogen dioxide and also that further work is required for sulphur dioxide and PM10.

Air Quality Management Areas

Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) are declared when there is an exceedance or likely exceedance of an air quality objective. After declaration, the authority must prepare an Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP) within 12 to 18 months setting out measures it intends to put in place in pursuit of compliance with the objectives. City of Bradford MDC declared four AQMAs in 2006. The AQMA orders and maps can be viewed below. For more information on current air quality in these areas and the wider city view the Annual Status Report.
