Business Improvement Districts (BIDs)

What are the Business Improvement Districts?

Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) is a public-private partnership in which businesses within a defined area of the city pay an additional levy to fund improvements in that area, for example improving security or cleaning.

Is my business in a BID area?

We have three BIDs in our district:

If your premises fall within a BID area, you will have to pay a BID levy on top of your Business Rates bill. To check whether your business is in a BID area please contact us using the details on this page.

Liability

For the BID accounts the billing year is 1 December to 30 November.

The occupier of the property as at the beginning of the BID billing year (or the entity entitled to possession if empty) will be liable for the whole BID levy payment for that year. Mid-year changes to liability will be made at the start of the next year.

The BID levy payment is due in a single instalment.

How do I pay my BID account?

The back of your BID bill shows bank account details for direct payments, and other options.

You must quote the 10-digit BID account reference number shown on your BIDs bill when making payment (please note that this is different from your normal Business Rates account number).

If you are having difficulty in making payments, or have questions, call the Business Rates team on 01274 437744. Phone lines are open from 9 am to 12 noon, Monday to Friday.
