Residential and nursing care homes
Residential or nursing care homes may be the right option for people whose needs are such that they can no longer be supported in their own home, in supported housing or in extra care housing and who require 24-hour care to be available.
Residential care home
Residential care homes provide care for people who need help with daily activities such as washing, dressing, eating and help with day to day activities.
Nursing care home
Nursing homes accommodate those who have general care needs and also require supervision from qualified nurses. This can include those with specific or complex health needs.
How do I find a suitable residential or nursing home?
If residential care or nursing care is the right option for you then there are a variety of homes across the Bradford District. The Bradford Care and Support Directory contains information about the homes across the District, including where homes are located, contact details, information relating to the cost of care, and a helpful checklist of questions to ask if you are visiting a residential or nursing home.
You can find out about the quality and safety of a care home from the Care Quality Commission, either on their website or by phone on 03000 616161.
How do I apply for a place in a care home?
Moving into a residential or nursing care home is normally done with involvement of a social worker from Bradford Council. If you are thinking of choosing a care home for yourself or on behalf of someone else, you can contact the Independence Advice Hub for more information on 01274 435400.
How much does a place in a care home cost?
There are different charges for residential and nursing care homes. How much you will be charged will be calculated following an individual financial assessment. A benefit check is completed as part of the financial assessment to ensure you receive all the benefits you are entitled to. Information about paying for care may also be found on the paying for residential care page.
