Make a planning application
Apply online
The easiest way to apply is online using the Planning Portal.
The system will guide you through the whole process, including:
- choosing the right application form
- uploading your plans and documents
- submitting your application
- paying the fee
You can also buy maps for your application through the Planning Portal "Buy a Plan" service.
Note: some types of applications cannot be submitted online. For these, you can download the correct forms from the Planning Portal instead.
Other ways to apply
You can apply by post if you prefer.
To do this:
- Download the application form from the Planning Portal website
- Send it to the address listed below
You must include:
- one completed application form
- your plans
- any supporting documents.

Community Infrastructure Levy
Since 1 July 2017, some developments must pay a charge called the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
This applies to:
- residential developments
- retail warehouses
- large supermarkets
- house extensions over 100 square metres
