Family history searches

Bradford Council has a statutory duty to maintain their Cemeteries and Crematorium Registers in perpetuity. The information in these books can help if you are researching your ancestors.

The records date from 1835 until the present day and can provide details of the final resting place of relatives, together with their age, their last known address and the district in which their death was registered - all relevant information if you want to learn more about your family.

How to search the Registers

Search the Registers yourself

You can look at records of the Registers at the Bradford and Keighley Local Studies libraries.

Ask us to search the Registers for you

If you are unable to visit the Local Studies libraries, you can contact us and we will do the research for you. Please note that the following charges apply:

Type of research Cost
Search of a named person £12
Search of each subsequent person £12

Unfortunately we are unable to refund these fees if the research is unsuccessful.

Please provide as much information as possible as most of the records need to be examined manually. The full names of the deceased and their date of death will usually provide us with enough information to carefully search the Registers.

If we find the person or people you are looking for we will send you a summary of the information recorded in the cemetery or crematorium books.

Pay for your family history (genealogical) search by debit card

You can also pay by cheque. Please make cheques payable to Bradford Metropolitan District Council.
