Guidelines for Hackney Carriage Vehicles
Applying for a transfer
Reasons for a transfer:
- If a proprietor no longer wishes to be on the licence
- If a proprietor has passed away
- If a proprietor wishes to be added to the licence
- If a proprietor(s) wishes to sell the vehicle to another person
Please email the Licensing Team at taxi.testing@bradford.gov.uk with your full name, Hackney Carriage plate number and your request to transfer the licence to another. Fees may occur.
Applying to licence a new vehicle - exchange
Reasons to exchange a vehicle.
- If the licensed vehicle has been involved in an RTC and a new vehicle needs to be licensed
- If the proprietor has purchased a new vehicle
- If the licensed vehicle has mechanical issues and a new vehicle needs to be licensed
Please email the Licensing Team at taxi.testing@bradford.gov.uk with your full name, Hackney Carriage plate number and your request to exchange the current vehicle for a new one. Fees may occur.
Please note – A Hackney Carriage vehicle cannot be ‘out of licence’, there should be no gaps in the licence, if a renewal has been submitted ‘late’ the new licence will still have the same ‘expiry’ date as the previous (plus a year).
Vehicle specification
Prior to applying for a vehicle to be licensed please read the following information for vehicle specifications:
- CAT C/D/S/N vehicles - If the vehicle has been previously categorised as a CAT C/D/S/N we will require and Autolign Certificate before proceeding with your application, for more information on Autolign tests please visit the Autolign website
- Colour of a vehicle – All Hackney Carriage vehicle white be white. If you have purchased a different colour vehicle, we will accept this if it has had a full wrap or a re-spray but must be all one colour. The Logbook will need to be updated to the new colour.
- Age of a vehicle – A compliant vehicle can be licensed until it reaches 15 years old. This is from the date the vehicle was first manufactured.
- Fuel Type - Euro 6 diesel / Euro 4 petrol or LPG
