Apply for a new vehicle licence
Please ensure that the vehicle you wish to licence is fully compliant before starting your application for a new vehicle licence.
Our full vehicle specification is available at: Vehicle specification document (PDF).
Also, all vehicles must:
- have valid road tax
- have a valid MOT certificate
- have operator decals and visors fitted before the vehicle test
Please do not use this form for Hackney Carriage vehicles, instead email taxi.testing@bradford.gov.uk with your requirements.
Documentation
The following documents will need to be uploaded when submitting your application:
- V5C (Logbook pages 2 and 3) with your name and address
- New keeper slip - If you have recently purchased the vehicle and do not have the log book, please provide a copy of your dated new keepers slip or invoice. When submitting your application, please ensure you input the first date of registration of the vehicle if your vehicle is an import, not the first date of registration in the UK.
- Insurance Certificate - New vehicles may apply without the insurance in place but you must ensure that we receive a copy of a valid insurance certificate no later than 3 working days before the vehicle test date. If the insurance has not been provided in time the plates will be posted to your home address.
Changing vehicle test dates
If you are unable to attend, please email taxi.testing@bradford.gov.uk with your full name, registration number and the reason for the cancellation at least 3 working days before the test (working days are Monday to Friday), otherwise you will incur costs.
I work for more than 1 operator, how do I display my decals?
Your decals need to be fitted to the driver and passenger doors and visors fitted to the front and rear window for the operator that you are working for. These must match the operator on your badge, if you have more than one operator on your badge, you must display your ‘main’ operator with permanent, tamper-proof decals (decals and visors). The magnet ones can only be used to cover up the permanent stickers when you are working for your second operator. You must never have more than 1 operator displayed.
What will I need to bring with me to my vehicle test?
Please ensure that you bring your driver I.D. badge along with you to the test, no badge no plates.
I have purchased a currently licensed vehicle, can I transfer this licence to me?
We do not facilitate transfer of licences for Private Hire vehicles. If you have bought a vehicle with the plates on, the previous owner will need to surrender this licence before we would be able to process your application.
I have purchased a private vehicle registration and wish to add this to my vehicle, how do I do this?
If you have purchased a private vehicle registration, you will need to ensure that your vehicle documentation has been updated with the DVLA. When you are inputting your new vehicle application, please attach your updated log book or your eV948 authorisation certificate when prompted.
Do I need to fit the black bracket on my vehicle before my vehicle test?
No, when your vehicle passes inspection, you will then be issued a black bracket along with your vehicle plate and windscreen disc.
My vehicle is a category S/N insurance write off, can this vehicle be licensed?
Category S/N vehicles can be licenced as long as a certificate from Autolign Services has been provided. Please visit the Autolign Services website for more information.
