Clinical waste collection for dialysis patients
Who can use this service
We collect clinical waste from dialysis patients who have been referred by a hospital Renal Nurse.
Your responsibilities
- If you have been treated at home, your nurse or medical professional must arrange for your clinical waste to be collected.
- Used sharp tubs (sharps bins) must be returned to the GP surgery where you got them.
What we cannot collect
We do not collect:
- needles, syringes, or injection pens – return these to your doctor.
- incontinence pads – put these in a bag and place them in your household bin.
- excrement or bodily fluids.
- medication, tablets, or creams – take unwanted or out-of-date medicines to any community pharmacy.
- blood, human or animal waste.
- medical implements.
Do not put syringes, needles or sharps bins in any of your household waste bins.
Always use a sharps bin for used needles and syringes. When your sharps bin is full, return it to your provider or take it to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre.
