What to do with old furniture and household items

Lots of things people throw away are still in good condition. Instead of binning them, you can:

Give it away

  • Ask your family, friends or neighbours if they want it
  • Take it to a charity shop or community project
  • Join Freecycle or Freegle - these are websites where people give away things for free.

Sell it

  • Try selling online on sites including Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Gumtree and Preloved.
  • You can also sell at car boot sales or similar events.

Take it to a recycling centre

Donate furniture and electrical items

These places will collect good quality furniture and household items for free and given them to people who need them.
