Environmental health enforces a wide range of legislation that ensures the health, safety and well being of our communities, but we understand that our enforcement decisions may have a significant impact on the individual or business concerned. Accordingly we ensure that our enforcement actions are carefully considered, whether they are verbal advice to correct legal breaches, or a prosecution requiring an appearance in court.

Our enforcement policy specifies the principles that we will follow when deciding upon our enforcement actions. The application of these principles means that the decisions that we make are fair, proportionate and consistent.
