Pay your Council Tax bill
These messages will allow you to pay your Council Tax to bring your account up to date, or to speak to an advisor for help with your bill. More information about messages from the Council Tax team.
Check your Council Tax bill
- check your Council Tax balance and account online
- ask for a copy of your bill to be sent to you
- ask for your bill in a different format (for example, large print or Braille) - this is called the Extra Care Scheme
- sign up to get your bill by email
Pay by Direct Debit
You will need:
- to be registered to pay the Council Tax at the property. If you have not yet registered, you can do this by using our change of address form
- your Council Tax reference number (from your bill)
- your bank or building society details. The Council Tax account name and the bank account name will need to match

Set up a Direct Debit where the Council Tax account name and the bank account name are different
Print and complete the Council Tax Direct Debit mandate form (PDF) if:
- the person setting up the Direct Debit is not the bill payer or bank account holder
- the name on your Council Tax bill does not match the name on the bank account from which payments are to be taken.

Change your Direct Debit
Note: you do not need to do anything if you have already set up a Direct Debit, your new bill will list the payment instalment amounts and the date they will be taken.
Pay by debit card
- pay your bill by debit card online
- you can also call our automated payments line on 0345 1450071.
You will need:
- your Council Tax reference number (from your bill)
- your debit card details - we accept Switch/Maestro, Solo, Visa and Delta debit card payments
Pay in person
- Take your bill or invoice to any PayPoint location.
- Pay up to a maximum of £300 per transaction. You can pay more than £300 at a time but PayPoint does this in more than one transaction and you will have more than one receipt.
Pay by direct banking
You need to ask your bank to set this up for you, quoting your account reference number. You will need the Council’s bank details:
- Sort Code 56-00-36
- Bank Account Number 00143790
- Bank Account Name Bradford Council Credit Transfer Account
International banking
If you live outside of the UK and need to pay Council Tax on a property in the Bradford District you will need to quote your account reference number and this IBAN reference number to your bank: GB13NWBK56003600143790. You may also need the SWIFT code: NWBKGB2L.
Please be aware that you may be charged a fee for this transaction by the International Bank you are using. You must pay the fee on top of the payment you are making. If the Council receives a payment that is less than the agreed instalment then you may be subject to recovery action on the outstanding amount. Please ensure that you add any transaction fees to your payment so we receive the correct amount payable.
Cheque
Send a cheque, made payable to 'Bradford Council', to Payments, PO Box 1249, Bradford, BD1 9YW. On the back of your cheque, please write 'Council Tax' as well as your reference number.
