Empty property review
Why is the council reviewing empty properties?
To help tackle the shortfall in national housing, the council is reviewing empty properties in the district. We are also doing this to fulfil our duty to maintain accurate records for Council Tax.
What do I need to tell the council?
If you have previously informed us that your property is unoccupied and unfurnished, the review will require you to confirm if your property:
- remains unoccupied and unfurnished
- has been furnished
- has been sold or if someone has now moved in
If you have previously informed us that your property is unoccupied and furnished, the review will require you to confirm if your property:

We will send you an email, text message or a letter detailing how you can complete the review.
I have received a visit from an officer in relation to the empty property review. Is this genuine?
An officer from Bradford Council may visit the property as part of our normal review process or because a review form has not been returned. A visiting officer will have official council identification on them so please always ask to see this.
I own an empty property - is there any help available to bring it back in to use?
Yes. For more information about empty properties and what help is available to bring them back in to use, please see the empty homes area of our website.
