What is the Clean Air Zone and how does it work?
A Clean Air Zone (CAZ) is a special area where the air needs to be cleaner. Bradford has one to help people breathe better and stay healthy.
Who has to pay?
- If your vehicle makes a lot of pollution, you might have to pay a daily charge to drive in the zone.
- Cars and motorbikes don’t have to pay in Bradford.
- Taxis, vans, buses, and motorhomes might have to pay if they don’t meet clean air rules.
You can check your vehicle using your number plate.
Where does the money go?
All the money from charges and fines is used to make Bradford’s air cleaner. It helps pay for things like:
- Clean Air Schools Programme – helps schools reduce pollution
- E-bike hire – lets people borrow electric bikes
- Cleaner buses – supports zero-emission buses
- Help for people and businesses – to upgrade to cleaner vehicles
- New clean energy projects– like hydrogen and district heat networks
