Extra care
Return to Market Overview | Return to the MPS home page
Extra Care allows people to maintain their independence and receive a range of support and care services that meet their individual needs, including culturally diverse requirements. This flexibility allows a person to stay in their apartment for longer as their requirements increase, rather than having to move again to receive the care they require in either residential or nursing care. By offering a supportive environment where people can live safely and well as they age, Extra Care can provide a home for life.
There are 809 units of Extra Care accommodation in the District, with the Council having nomination rights for 540 of these units.
A full review of Extra Care services in the District has now taken place. Over the next year, work is being undertaken with Extra Care schemes to improve access to services, provide a transparent, consistent support offer and to ensure individuals have choice and control over where they live as they age. Our longer term plan is to expand our accommodation offer to meet the More Choice Greater Voice target of 25 Extra Care units per 1000 population over 75. Further information on our current position can be found in the market review which will be published shortly.
The 12 dots on the map below represent schemes where the Council holds nomination rights. The map also shows details of the over 55 population in the District. Provision is spread across Bradford, but with clusters in central and south Bradford. Schemes are based around local communities to support individuals to remain in their communities.
