Bradford’s Oastler Market has found the perfect person to play the role of Santa in the busy run up to the festive season.

The council’s Markets Service put out a call for someone to play the main man in their grotto last month.

Edo Nnanelli, who’s originally from the Tuscany area of Italy, will don the famous Santa suit and pull on a pair of big boots to play Father Christmas in the market.

Edo, who was born in 1945 and lives in the Allerton area of the city, is a regular shopper in the Oastler Market.

The grotto at the market will be open 12pm to 4pm on December 16, 17 and 23 and is free for children to meet Santa Claus, tell him their wishes for Christmas and received a small gift.

The grotto has been organised by the traders in the market and the gifts for the children have all been donated by the traders.

Khansa Tufail, Bradford Council’s Markets and Promotions Project Officer, said: “We had a great response to our appeal to find someone to be Santa for the children of Bradford and Edo is perfect for the role. He has such a lovely personality and is a regular in the market. I’m sure he will do an excellent job.
