Bradford Council, in partnership with local LGBT+ groups, is organising a special event to acknowledge groups and residents who have given their time to improve life for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

The Bradford Pride Awards will cover four categories including LGBT+ friendly organisation, LGBT+ Champion, Best LGBT+ Group and Young Active Citizen.

Winners will be decided by a panel made up of representatives from the LGBT community, Bradford Council and West Yorkshire Police.

The Bradford Pride Awards have been organised as part of Bradford LGBT History Month, a 28-day programme of entertainment, education and discussion designed to recognise and value the local LGBT community.

The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 28 February at City Hall during an evening of entertainment.

The public are being asked for nominations which close on Friday, 10 February at 5pm.

Coun Abdul Jabar, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety, said: "People have always volunteered and supported Bradford’s LGBT+ community and this work should not go unnoticed.

"The Bradford Pride Awards give us the opportunity to celebrate people who make a real difference to the LGBT+ community.

Kersten England, Bradford Council Chief Executive, said: "We are on the lookout for the amazing work done by individuals and organisations to make Bradford a great place for our LGBT+ residents, their families and communities."

"Bradford's reputation as a welcoming and progressive city is both well deserved and good for everyone."

Coun Richard Dunbar, Bradford Council’s LGBT+ Champion, said: "The Bradford Pride Awards will be the perfect showcase of the invaluable contribution the LGBT+ community makes to this great district.

"I would actively encourage individuals, groups and businesses to send in their nominations to make it a record year.

"There are so many LGBT+ people and allies who go that extra mile, who make a huge difference everyday and who put the needs of others above their own without getting the recognition they deserve. This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate their contribution."
