Safe and Sound consultation
Bradford Council is reassessing the way it charges for its Safe and Sound Service.
At the moment Safe and Sound Service costs £3.30 per week (not including VAT). This is much cheaper compared to other local authorities in West Yorkshire. Bradford Council has been helping out by paying a big chunk of the cost - around £1.5 million each year. But we can’t keep paying that much every year because it’s just not possible anymore.
The Council is proposing to introduce a tiered charging model, where the prices will reflect the level of support needed. This includes:
- Basic Package (Family/Friends as Responders): In this option, if there’s an alert, your family or friends will be the ones to help you out. Suggested cost is around £2.50.
- Basic Package (Council Service as Responders): This is similar to the first option, but the council’s team will respond if you need help. Suggested cost is around £5.00.
- Home Safety Package: This package will include extra safety gadgets like flood sensors and other things to keep your home safe. Suggested cost is around £6.00.
- Falls Package: This option will focus on helping those who are at risk of falling, with special support and equipment to keep them safe. Suggested cost is around £7.00.
Safe and Sound
Safe and Sound service operates in partnership with health and emergency services across the district to provide users with a variety of support mechanisms for people to live safety and independently in their own home. It provides the reassurance that if a user has a fall or accident, help is available through the activation of a control box at home which connects to a control room operator who can action the required response through family members or emergency services.
