About the Outdoor Centre

Who are we?

If you are looking for a residential based in the glorious Yorkshire Dales then you have come to the right place. Bradford Council owns and manages a fantastic outdoor centre in the heart of the National Park, Buckden House.

It has been established as an outdoor centre since the early 1970s but has a much longer history in educating and working with children, most notably as an evacuation school during the world wars.

What do we do?

We provide bespoke courses for a range of schools, groups, families and individuals. Our core business is working with schools from across the district and further afield. We can cater for early years pupils on days visits covering topics such as village studies, through to key stage 4 students who want a practical input on local landforms.

We work closely with other departments from within the Council including the Youth and Short Breaks services. These courses are tailored to the groups individual needs and desires to allow them to best meet their outcomes.

The centre also provides a range of adult courses generally at weekends and during school holidays. These include teacher training days, national governing body awards in caving and skills courses in climbing, caving and hill walking.
