If you’re struggling with debt, it can be hard to know where to turn. However, with lots of free advice services available, you can find help that’s best for you.
How will a debt adviser help you?
A debt adviser will:
- never judge you or make you feel bad about your situation
- always be happy to talk to you, however big or small your problem might be
- find ways to manage your debts even if you think you have no spare money
- suggest ways to deal with debts that you might not know about.
Where can I find debt advice?
Go to the Money Advice Service website where you will find up to date contact details for debt advice. This includes: help that is online, over the telephone or face to face.
All of the services shown on the Money Advice Service website are free, confidential and hold a standard accredited by the Money Advice Service.

If you would like someone else to act on your behalf regarding your Council Tax account, please use our online contact form or call us on 01274 437792. The person you want to deal with your account can be the person who contacts us, but we may need to speak to you as well or have you sign an agreement.

Yorkshire Water support
Utility companies like Yorkshire Water have different tariffs that could help you free up income to pay towards other priority things like rent and council tax, for example, the plan you are on with Yorkshire water may not suit you as you live on your own, there may be a better alternative. Please go to the Yorkshire Water website to see if they can help you.
An additional £15 million is being made available from Yorkshire Water shareholders for support with bills. This will bring the total support to available to £115m and will support over 100,000 customers struggling to pay their bill every year.
