Single Person Discount for the Bradford district

July to October 2024 - we are sending out letters, emails and text messages asking households receiving a Single Person Discount to review their details.

What is Single Person Discount?

You can get a Single Person Discount of 25% on your main home if you are the only adult living in your property.

If somebody is away from your home for a short time only and will still be keeping their belongings in the property, it will still be classed as their main residence. Anyone still remaining in the property would not be entitled to a discount.

Please note:

We have a duty to periodically review discounts for households where only one adult (a person over the age of 18) is resident. This would include written requests and electronic requests for information, data matching, telephone contact or visits to your home to check the information that you have provided.

It is important that if your circumstances change and you are no longer a single occupier you tell us as soon as possible.

It is an offence to knowingly supply false information to support a Council Tax discount and that failure to notify a change to the Council, within 21 days, could lead to a penalty charge of £70 and in certain circumstances a criminal prosecution.
